The Manager of the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has called on Muslims across the country to observe Ramadan as a period of spiritual renewal, moral discipline and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence.
In a message issued ahead of the start of the Islamic fasting month, Hajjat Namyalo, who also serves as Political Assistant to the NRM National Chairman, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, said “Ramadan offers believers an opportunity to reflect deeply on their faith while strengthening values that sustain families and communities.”
She added, the holy month should be understood not only as a religious obligation, but also as a time for self-correction, forgiveness and ethical living.
“Ramadan calls believers to repentance, reflection and restraint. It is a season that encourages discipline of both the body and the mind, while reinforcing unity, compassion and respect for others,” she said.
Citing the Qur’an, Hajjat Namyalo noted that fasting is prescribed to nurture righteousness and self-control, describing it as a spiritual exercise intended to shape character rather than test physical endurance. She added that Ramadan, as the month in which the Qur’an was revealed, carries a broader message of guidance and moral clarity for believers.
“Fasting goes beyond abstaining from food and drink. It is about guarding one’s speech, actions and intentions, and recommitting to obedience to Allah,” she said.
She also highlighted the theme of mercy that defines the holy month, urging Muslims not to lose hope in Allah’s forgiveness regardless of past failings. According to her, Ramadan provides space for renewal and fresh beginnings, both at an individual level and within society.
Beyond personal devotion, Namyalo encouraged Muslims to use the period to promote peace in their homes, support the less privileged through charity, and pray for national stability and continued development.
“As we observe this sacred month, let our prayers extend to peace in our communities and prosperity for our country,” she said.
Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting from dawn to sunset, alongside increased prayer, charity and reflection. The start of the holy month is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon and is expected to begin in mid-February, subject to confirmation by Islamic authorities.
