KAMPALA — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today praised Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala for his lifetime of service to faith, leadership, and community development during a meeting at State House.
The President described the 99-year-old cleric as a beacon of moral guidance whose influence has shaped generations across Uganda.
President Museveni reaffirmed government support for the Kamagwa Hospital, established by the Cardinal’s family foundation, emphasizing that it will continue to operate as a privately managed health facility serving communities nationwide.
In a move to preserve the Cardinal’s legacy, the President directed the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities to facilitate the creation of a dedicated museum. At the Cardinal’s request, President Museveni agreed to serve as Patron of the initiative.
“I join all Ugandans in celebrating the long and impactful life of Cardinal Wamala,” President Museveni said, extending prayers for his continued health and God’s blessings as he marks 99 years.
Cardinal Wamala has held key positions within the Catholic Church, including Archbishop of Kampala, and is widely respected for his mediation efforts, community outreach, and advocacy for social cohesion.
