Security agencies have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of Martin Bukenya, an 18-year-old whose killing shocked residents of Mabanda Cell, Gombe Division, Wakiso District.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. She said he will be transferred to the relevant jurisdiction to face charges once inquiries are concluded.
Investigations indicate that the incident occurred on the evening of February 14 at approximately 8pm at the suspect’s residence in Mabanda Cell. Police allege that Mr Bukenya was assaulted after reportedly being found inside the home with the suspect’s 14-year-old daughter.
The deceased, a student at Hillside Secondary School, resided in Kirinyabigo, Nabweru Division. His death sparked grief and concern among community members, prompting swift action by authorities.
Ms Kawala urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, assuring that law enforcement is committed to due process.
“The suspect is in custody, and we are following proper legal procedures. Justice will take its course,” she said.
Authorities added that the arrest follows a series of coordinated operations by security agencies, underlining their commitment to bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice. The case remains under active investigation, and further updates will be provided once inquiries are complete.
