WAKISO: The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has extended the ONC Ramadan food distribution drive to Wakiso District, delivering essential relief supplies to fasting families and urging Muslims to use the holy month as a period of spiritual renewal, discipline and shared responsibility.
The outreach, part of the ONC’s annual Ramadan programme, is aimed at easing the daily burden faced by vulnerable households during the fasting period by supporting their iftar needs.
On the second day of the exercise, Hajjat Namyalo led the distribution at Masjid Saeed Al Majdour in Kasangati Town Council, where food packages containing rice, beans, posho and milk were handed over to selected families.
She was received by ONC Wakiso coordinator Henry Luzinda, NRM Wakiso chairperson Mayanja Laurence, district Women’s League chairperson Hannifa Nsubuga, as well as religious leaders including Sheikh Erias Kigozi, Sheikh Katongole Abdullatif and Imam Badru Byamugisha.
Addressing congregants, Hajjat Namyalo reminded Muslims that Ramadan goes beyond abstaining from food and drink, describing it as a season for reflection, moral discipline and strengthening family and community ties. “This is a month to return to Allah and correct what is wrong in our hearts. Let us use it to rebuild our faith, promote unity and support one another,” she said, encouraging believers to embrace night prayers, humility and personal accountability.
Religious leaders welcomed the initiative, noting that Wakiso District hosts hundreds of mosques and a growing Muslim population, many of whom face economic challenges.
Sheikh Kigozi said that, the food support would directly benefit families struggling to provide daily meals during Ramadan, while Imam Byamugisha commended the ONC for demonstrating solidarity with ordinary worshippers through practical action.
The distribution later continued at Masjid Jamia Katangawuzi in Nansana and Masjid Noor in Wakiso Town, with elderly residents, widows and low-income families among the beneficiaries.
Beyond the immediate relief, Namyalo encouraged Muslims to participate in economic empowerment and financial protection initiatives, highlighting the planned launch of Islamic insurance on March 10 at City Square. She said the initiative, expected to be officiated by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, aligns with faith-compliant financial principles and promotes responsible planning and long-term community resilience.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support. The ONC said the Ramadan food distribution drive will continue in other mosques across Wakiso District and the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, reinforcing a message of compassion, faith and collective responsibility during the holy month.
