Kampala — The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has delivered a large consignment of food items to thousands of students at Excel Vocational Training Centre in Bombo–Kalule as part of its Ramadan outreach programme aimed at supporting Muslim learners observing the holy fasting month.

The food packages were delivered on Thursday by ONC Deputy Head of Mobilisation George William Kalema on behalf of the ONC Manager and Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye.

According to ONC officials, the initiative forms part of ongoing community engagement efforts intended to support institutions that nurture young people while strengthening humanitarian outreach during the holy month of Ramadan.

The consignment included beans, sugar, milk, dates, rice, spaghetti and cooking oil. The supplies are expected to help Muslim students at the institute access meals for both Iftar, the evening meal that breaks the fast, and Sahoor, the pre-dawn meal consumed before fasting begins each day.

Students of Excel Vocational Training Centre in Bombo–Kalule receive food supplies delivered by ONC Deputy Head of Mobilisation George William Kalema during a Ramadan outreach programme on Thursday.

While addressing students during the handover ceremony, Mr Kalema urged them to use their time at the training centre productively and avoid distractions that could undermine their education and personal growth.

“You are here to build your future,” Kalema told the learners. “Time is a very valuable resource and if you waste it, you waste opportunities that may never return. Focus on your studies and skills because education is what will make you relevant and useful to society.”

He emphasised that vocational training provides practical skills that can help young people become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Kalema also encouraged the students to uphold the values of discipline, patience and self-control learned during the fasting period even after Ramadan ends.

“God teaches us that discipline and patience are virtues that shape a responsible person,” he said. “Ramadan trains us to control our desires, respect others and strengthen our faith. These values should not end with the fasting month but should guide your life every day.”

Officials at the training centre welcomed the support, noting that many of the learners observing Ramadan come from modest backgrounds and rely on institutional support during the fasting period.

The ONC has in recent weeks intensified its Ramadan outreach activities across different communities, providing food assistance to Muslim faithful, community groups and educational institutions as part of efforts to promote social solidarity and support vulnerable groups during the holy month.
