Copenhagen, Denmark — Uganda has intensified efforts to expand its global tourism footprint following a successful Uganda–Danish/Nordic Tourism Symposium held at the Scandic Spectrum Hotel in Copenhagen.

The high-level engagement, organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Copenhagen, brought together tourism stakeholders, investors, and Destination Management Companies (DMCs) from Uganda and across the Nordic region. The symposium focused on strengthening sustainable tourism partnerships and enhancing Uganda’s visibility as a preferred international destination.

Officiating the event, Uganda’s Ambassador to Copenhagen, Amb. Margaret M. Otteskov, welcomed participants and underscored the need to strategically position Uganda within the global tourism market. She highlighted the country’s vast eco-tourism potential and encouraged Nordic partners to actively promote Uganda across their respective markets.

Ambassador Otteskov assured participants of Uganda’s safety for both tourism and investment, noting that the country continues to offer a stable environment conducive for long-term partnerships. She further called for deeper collaboration with Nordic Destination Management Companies to increase Uganda’s visibility and attract more visitors.

Participants at the symposium pointed to Uganda’s competitive advantage, citing its diverse wildlife, rich cultural heritage, and improving global connectivity. They also identified investment opportunities across the tourism value chain, including eco-tourism development, hospitality infrastructure, and transport services.

The engagement also showcased community-based tourism initiatives, cultural exchange programmes, and innovative tourism products designed to enhance visitor experiences while promoting sustainability. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of responsible tourism that benefits local communities and preserves Uganda’s natural resources.

Uganda and Nordic partners strengthen tourism ties.

Key outcomes from the symposium included strengthened partnerships, growing investor interest, and renewed commitments to jointly market Uganda as a leading sustainable tourism destination. These developments are expected to contribute to increased tourist arrivals and enhanced foreign investment in the sector.

The event concluded with Business-to-Business meetings aimed at fostering direct collaborations, followed by a vibrant cultural evening celebrating Uganda’s diverse heritage and traditions.

Discover Uganda: Nature, culture, and adventure await.

The symposium forms part of Uganda’s broader strategy to diversify tourism markets and tap into emerging opportunities within the Nordic region, as the country continues to position itself as a premier destination for nature, culture, and adventure tourism.
