Kampala. Businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has been appointed Mentor and Coordinator (Prabhari) of Uganda’s Lohana Community under the Shree Lohana Mahaparishad Overseas Zone 6 leadership structure for the 2026–2031 term.
The appointment was announced as part of a newly constituted leadership team that will oversee the affairs of the Lohana community in Uganda over the next five years.
As Prabhari, Dr Ruparelia will provide strategic guidance and leadership oversight to the community, which is part of the global Shree Lohana Mahaparishad, one of the largest umbrella organisations representing the Lohana community worldwide.
The organisation has an estimated membership of more than three million people across different continents, while Uganda’s chapter comprises about 550 members.
The new leadership team includes Mr Kiran Bhimjiyani as Uganda Zonal President, Mr Bhaskar Kotecha as Uganda Zonal Vice President, Mr Sanjay Thakkar as Uganda Zonal Secretary, Mr Janak Gadhiya as Kampala City President, Mr Piyush Kotecha as Jinja City President and Mr Sanjay Hathi as Mbale Town President.
According to community leaders, the team will be responsible for strengthening member engagement, promoting cultural heritage, coordinating social welfare programmes and enhancing organisational development within the community.
Members welcomed the appointments, expressing confidence that the new leadership will foster greater unity and expand the community’s contribution to Uganda’s socio-economic development.
Dr Ruparelia, chairman of the Ruparelia Group and Honorary Consul of Nepal to Uganda, is widely recognised as one of East Africa’s leading entrepreneurs. Over the years, he has built a diversified business empire with interests in real estate, hospitality, education, agriculture, insurance and property development.
Beyond business, he has also been involved in philanthropy through the Ruparelia Foundation, which supports initiatives in education, healthcare, sports, youth empowerment and community welfare.
Community members said his extensive experience in leadership and institution building is expected to contribute significantly to the Lohana community’s long-term development agenda.
The Shree Lohana Mahaparishad operates in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, promoting cultural preservation, charitable activities, educational advancement and socio-economic cooperation among its members globally.
