The Uganda Police Force has warned candidates, supporters, and members of the public against engaging in violence and electoral misconduct ahead of the Local Council (LC1) elections scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, Police spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma said security agencies are prepared to ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful, orderly, and lawful manner.
He reminded candidates and political actors that campaigns officially ended on Monday, July 27, 2026, warning that any form of campaigning beyond the stipulated period would not be tolerated.
“The Police together with other security and administrative stakeholders will not tolerate any form of misconduct that undermines the integrity of the elections,” ACP Kituuma said.
He cautioned against acts of intimidation, violence, threats, tampering with election materials, obstruction of election officials, voter influence at polling stations, and any attempts to disrupt the voting process.
ACP Kituuma also warned against unlawful processions, public disorder, fighting, physical assaults, and any conduct likely to create fear or interfere with the electoral exercise.
He said the Police, working alongside other security and administrative agencies, have put in place measures to safeguard voters, election officials, and electoral materials throughout the polling period.
The Police spokesperson urged all stakeholders to respect the election guidelines, follow instructions from election officials, and allow citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote without interference.
“Those who choose to engage in bad practices or break the peace should expect decisive police action,” he warned.
ACP Kituuma appealed to candidates, political actors, and their supporters to demonstrate responsibility, discipline, and respect for democratic principles before, during, and after the elections.
He further reminded voters and candidates that Uganda’s electoral system provides lawful channels for handling any complaints or disputes arising from the elections.
He encouraged those dissatisfied with the outcome of the elections to seek redress through established legal procedures rather than resorting to violence or actions that threaten public order.
The Uganda Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure that the LC1 elections are conducted in a free, peaceful, and secure environment.
