KAMPALA — The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged the newly appointed national leadership of Nkobazambogo to use their skills and networks to contribute to the development of the kingdom.
Mr Mayiga made the remarks on Thursday at Bulange Mengo while launching the new Nkobazambogo national leadership committee.
He commended members of the association for their service and encouraged them to apply the skills acquired through education and training as they pursue employment and other opportunities.
“Young people face serious challenges in finding employment, and there is no doubt that those without jobs constitute a very large proportion of the population in the country,” Mr Mayiga said.
He urged members to remain committed to developing their professional skills while exploring opportunities that can improve their livelihoods.
Mr Mayiga also called on Nkobazambogo members to preserve the unity and brotherhood developed within the organisation.
He said working together would enable the association to pursue its objectives and contribute to Buganda’s wider development agenda.
Expanding Nkobazambogo
The Minister for Youth, Sports and Talent in Buganda, Robert Sserwanga Ssaalongo, said efforts were underway to expand Nkobazambogo to more educational institutions across the country.
The initiative is intended to strengthen the organisation’s presence among students and young people while creating networks through which members can participate in activities associated with the kingdom.
Kizza Hakim Ssawula, the Bukoto South Member of Parliament and former national chairperson of Nkobazambogo, urged members to remain loyal to the Kabaka.
He encouraged the new leadership to uphold the values of the organisation and maintain its links with the Buganda Kingdom.
Buganda Youth Council chairperson, lawyer Derick Kavuma, challenged Nkobazambogo members to improve the quality of their work and remain committed to serving Buganda.
New leadership
The new national leadership is headed by Racheal Nalujja as chairperson, with Kizito Pius serving as vice chairperson.
Paul Waswa Muwonge is the secretary, while Sylvia Nakamatte is the council speaker.
Araphat Ssemmanda Kakooza has been appointed legal adviser, while James Ssango will oversee communications.
The new committee takes office at a time when Buganda continues to encourage young people to acquire skills, seek employment opportunities and participate in development activities.
Mr Mayiga urged the leaders to work collectively and ensure that the unity built within Nkobazambogo is maintained as the organisation expands.
