A campaign honouring the late businessman and rally driver Rajiv Ruparelia is taking his memory beyond the motorsport circuit, with organisers planning charity activities in Luwero and Gulu this week.
The Rajiv Ruparelia Legacy Van will make a stop at Luwero Girls Primary School on Thursday, October 8, as it travels north for the sixth round of the 2026 KCB National Rally Championship.
The initiative, organised under the “Forever RR” and “Van to Gulu” campaign, is intended to link Rajiv’s legacy to community service and support for people and institutions in the communities along the route.
Organiser Bukenya Sulaiman said the Luwero visit was part of efforts to remember Rajiv’s spirit of generosity and giving back to society.
Rajiv, the only son of businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, died on May 3, 2025, in a road crash at the Busabala Flyover in Wakiso District. He was 35.
He was actively involved in Ugandan motorsport and founded the Rajiv Ruparelia Rally Team. He also served as patron of the Central Motor Club (CMC) and competed in several national rally events.
His contribution to motorsport has continued to be remembered by the fraternity, with the Gulu rally event among activities associated with his legacy.
The Luwero visit will give the campaign an opportunity to extend its activities beyond motorsport and into education and community support.
The Ruparelia Foundation is supporting the initiative, with the organisers saying the school visit is intended to reflect Rajiv’s commitment to helping others.
The foundation has also previously been involved in education and other community initiatives in memory of Rajiv.
The legacy campaign will continue in Gulu, where the Central Motor Club is hosting the sixth round of the 2026 KCB National Rally Championship from October 8 to 10.
The CMC and Ruparelia Foundation are also expected to donate food and household items to the Gulu Disabled Persons Union on Friday, October 9.
The planned donation includes sugar, rice, soap, posho, milk and beans, with organisers saying the gesture is intended to remember Rajiv’s contribution to the club and motorsport.
The Gulu activities come as the rally fraternity continues to honour Rajiv, who was closely associated with the sport before his death.
The latest campaign adds to a series of initiatives through which Rajiv’s family, friends and associates have continued to remember him.
Organisers say the focus is on keeping his memory connected to service, particularly support for communities, children and vulnerable groups.
The Luwero and Gulu activities will therefore combine motorsport, charity and remembrance as the “Forever RR” campaign continues to commemorate Rajiv’s life and contribution to Ugandan society.
