Kampala — The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Manager and Senior Presidential Adviser, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has thrown her weight behind the upcoming birthday charity run organised in honour of Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, contributing Shs10 million on the spot and receiving official kits on behalf of the ONC.
The gesture, made on Monday, underscored growing momentum around the run and signalled a strong show of solidarity between two of the ruling National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) key mobilisation structures — the ONC and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
Namyalo was received by a delegation from the PLU, led by Secretary General Hon. David Kabanda, in an engagement that doubled as a public reaffirmation of unity amid occasional speculation about rivalry between the two offices.
Addressing the media, Mr Kabanda said the charity run, themed “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” is aimed at raising funds to support vulnerable children living in ghettos and those under the care of non-governmental organisations across the country.
“This run is for a cause,” Mr Kabanda said. “It is not just about celebrating a birthday but about extending hope and support to some of the most disadvantaged children in our communities.”
He commended Namyalo for her contribution and participation, noting that both the ONC and PLU share a common mission of mobilising citizens in support of national development and the President’s vision.
Mr Kabanda also dismissed claims of friction between the two entities, describing such reports as unfounded. “There are no wrangles or conflicts between the ONC and PLU. We work together and will continue to do so,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, Namyalo described her involvement in the charity run as rooted in her long-standing commitment to community and humanitarian causes.
“My passion for helping the vulnerable is personal,” she said, adding that supporting the initiative was a natural extension of her work in community development.
On the significance of celebrating Gen. Muhoozi, Namyalo was unequivocal, saying his role in safeguarding the country makes such recognition fitting. Her remarks were met with applause from members of the PLU delegation in attendance.
She also highlighted her longstanding personal relationship with Mr Kabanda, revealing that their friendship dates back to childhood — a bond that continues to strengthen collaboration between their respective offices.
Namyalo further noted that both she and Mr Kabanda have worked closely in advancing the NRM’s political agenda, including efforts that contributed to President Yoweri Museveni’s electoral success, which she said remains a unifying factor in their continued mobilisation work.
Observers at the event interpreted the Shs10 million contribution and Namyalo’s participation as more than symbolic, viewing it as a clear institutional endorsement that boosts the profile and credibility of the charity run ahead of the main event.
The upcoming run is expected to attract wide participation from government officials, civil society actors and members of the private sector, all rallying behind a shared cause of improving the welfare of vulnerable children.
As preparations gather pace, organisers say the initiative reflects a broader commitment to social responsibility, bringing together political and community leaders under a common banner of compassion and hope.
