WAKISO — Two people were killed and nine others injured after a Sino Truck lost control and crashed into three vehicles at Nkoowe along the Kampala–Hoima Road in Wakiso District.
The crash occurred at about 1:33pm on Tuesday, September 8, according to preliminary police findings.
Police said the vehicles involved were a Sino Truck, registration number UBK 495F; a Toyota Hiace commuter taxi, UAT 272J; a Subaru Forester, UBB 353D; and a Toyota Wish, UBE 918T.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Sino Truck was carrying stones from Kakiri towards Kampala when its driver reportedly lost control at Nkoowe before crashing into the three vehicles.
The commuter taxi was among those hit. It had reportedly stopped by the roadside to pick up passengers when the truck rammed into it.
The impact killed the taxi driver and conductor at the scene, police said.
Nine passengers travelling in the taxi were injured in the crash. The injured included five adults and four juveniles.
Police and other emergency responders attended the scene as investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the crash continued.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased or provided further details about the condition of the injured.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish what caused the truck to lose control and led to the fatal collision.
The crash adds to concerns over road safety along major highways, where speeding, loss of control and heavy vehicles have frequently been linked to serious accidents.
