Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) has called for a thorough, transparent and evidence-based investigation into the death of Kalangala Woman Member of Parliament Helen Nakimuli, as questions continue to surround the circumstances of her passing.
In a statement, the doctors’ body urged authorities handling the inquiry to rely strictly on medical and forensic evidence, cautioning against speculation and the spread of unverified claims as investigations proceed.
“The public deserves clarity grounded in science and facts. We encourage all processes to remain professional, transparent and guided by credible medical findings,” UMA said.
The call comes at a time when the cause of Nakimuli’s death remains inconclusive, with earlier postmortem examinations reportedly failing to establish a definitive cause, deepening public concern and debate.
Nakimuli’s passing has drawn widespread tributes from across the political spectrum, with leaders describing her as a dedicated, people-centred and compassionate legislator. Her colleagues in Parliament and leaders from different institutions have continued to eulogise her contribution to public service and community development.
Parliament has already released the official funeral programme, while religious leaders, government officials and fellow MPs have also paid tribute to her legacy, calling for dignity and respect for the bereaved family as investigations continue.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as forensic and medical reviews progress.
