Kampala — The Parliament of Uganda has officially commenced the swearing-in of newly elected legislators, marking the formal opening of the 12th Parliament for the 2026–2031 term amid excitement and high public expectations.

Among those sworn in was Mafabi Asha Nabulo, who officially took oath as Woman Member of Parliament for Sironko District during a ceremony held at Parliament in Kampala.

The swearing-in exercise, presided over by parliamentary officials, forms part of the constitutional process through which elected representatives formally assume office before the House begins full legislative business.

Outside Parliament, jubilant supporters from Sironko District broke into celebration moments after Nabulo took oath. Supporters waved placards, danced to traditional Kadodi tunes, and chanted slogans in praise of their newly elected representative, describing her entry into Parliament as a turning point for the district.

Speaking shortly after the ceremony, Nabulo thanked the people of Sironko for entrusting her with the mandate to represent them in the national legislature.

“I sincerely thank the people of Sironko District for the trust and confidence they placed in me. This is a responsibility I will serve with commitment and dedication,” she said.

She pledged to champion issues affecting households across the district, particularly those concerning women, youth, and vulnerable communities.

“I will work tirelessly to ensure the voices of our people are heard and their concerns addressed at the national level,” Nabulo added.

The legislator further committed herself to supporting affirmative action programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting inclusive development.

Nabulo also pledged support for government programmes under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s “Kisanja No Sleep” agenda, which focuses on wealth creation, service delivery, and socio-economic transformation.

Parliament is expected to continue with the swearing-in of other legislators in the coming days before the House transitions into full parliamentary operations.
