KAMPALA — Businessmen Dr Sudhir Ruparelia and Godfrey Kirumira have publicly expressed support for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in a development that could give the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) added visibility as it steps up its political mobilisation activities.
The two businessmen on Monday, September 7, visited the PLU headquarters, where, according to the organisation, they signed endorsement books in support of Gen Muhoozi’s political ambitions.
Their appearance at the PLU offices comes as the organisation conducts a signature collection campaign aimed at mobilising support for Gen Muhoozi.
PLU officials and supporters described the participation of the two businessmen as a boost to the campaign, given their prominence in Uganda’s business community.
However, the endorsement does not by itself establish the level of wider public support for Gen Muhoozi, whose political ambitions have generated considerable debate in the country.
Mr Ruparelia’s latest gesture follows an earlier public association with Gen Muhoozi.
In April 2026, the businessman reportedly contributed Shs100 million towards Gen Muhoozi’s “Run for Hope” birthday charity event held at Kololo Independence Grounds.
His participation in the PLU signature campaign therefore represents another public gesture of support for the General.
For PLU supporters, the involvement of prominent business figures could help raise the organisation’s profile and encourage more people to participate in its mobilisation activities.
Mr Ruparelia and Mr Kirumira are also associated with the Kwagalana Group, a network of Kampala-based businesspeople with interests in different sectors of the economy.
Their involvement has attracted attention because of their standing within Uganda’s private sector.
The development comes at a time when PLU is seeking to expand its mobilisation efforts and demonstrate support for Gen Muhoozi’s political ambitions.
The organisation has been encouraging supporters to participate in its signature drive, which it says is intended to gather millions of endorsements.
It remains to be seen how the campaign will translate into broader political support as Uganda’s political activities intensify.
For now, the endorsement by the two businessmen adds prominent private-sector names to a campaign that is seeking to build both grassroots and elite support for Gen Muhoozi.
