SOROTI CITY — Beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Soroti City are registering significant improvements in household incomes, business growth, and living standards, reflecting the growing impact of the government’s flagship wealth creation programme.

Findings from a recent monitoring exercise conducted by the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) indicate that many beneficiaries have successfully invested PDM funds in productive enterprises, resulting in increased earnings, asset accumulation, and improved household welfare.

The exercise, led by ONC District Coordinator Ms. Anyait Christine, involved visits to beneficiaries engaged in crop farming, livestock rearing, trade, and value-addition enterprises across different parts of the city.

According to Ms. Anyait, the programme is steadily transforming livelihoods by providing households with access to capital for income-generating activities.

“Many beneficiaries are now operating sustainable enterprises that are generating regular income. We have seen businesses expand, livestock numbers increase, and households acquire assets that were previously beyond their reach,” she said.

Beneficiaries interviewed during the exercise reported that proceeds from their enterprises have enabled them to pay school fees, improve household nutrition, access healthcare services, and invest in additional economic activities.

Several beneficiaries also reported expanding their agricultural operations, purchasing livestock, and increasing savings through profits generated from PDM-supported projects.

Ms. Anyait attributed the positive outcomes to effective utilisation of the funds, community mobilisation efforts, and continued support from local leaders and Parish SACCO management committees.

She noted that while challenges remain, the growing number of success stories demonstrates the programme’s potential to accelerate socio-economic transformation when funds are invested responsibly.

“The results we are witnessing show that PDM is creating opportunities for households to move beyond subsistence livelihoods and participate more actively in the money economy,” she said.

The Parish Development Model was introduced to improve household incomes by supporting enterprise development through Parish SACCOs. The programme aims to stimulate local economic growth, create employment opportunities, and reduce poverty at the grassroots level.

The ONC monitoring exercise is part of ongoing efforts to evaluate programme performance, promote accountability, and document the impact of government interventions on beneficiary households.

As implementation continues, emerging success stories from Soroti City suggest that the programme is helping households strengthen their economic resilience and build more sustainable sources of income.
