KAMPALA — Police in Kampala are searching for Rose Turindamukama following the death of her 22-year-old roommate, Jovia Namuwulya, whose body was discovered in their rented room in Bukoto.
Namuwulya, a waitress and resident of Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto I Parish in Nakawa Division, was found dead on August 20, 2026, after relatives raised the alarm when she stopped responding to their calls.
She was also known on TikTok as Jovia1235.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, Namuwulya had rented the room about seven months before her death. Turindamukama is said to have moved into the residence about three months later.
When relatives could no longer reach Namuwulya, they contacted the caretaker. The caretaker, accompanied by Namuwulya’s sister, went to the residence but found the door locked.
Kawala said they looked through a window and noticed blood stains inside the room, prompting them to gain access.
They subsequently found Namuwulya lying in a pool of blood.
Police were called to the scene and recovered the body, which was taken to the City Mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the circumstances and cause of death.
Turindamukama was not at the residence when police arrived and has since become a person of interest in the investigation.
“Her friend Turindamukama Rose couldn’t be found and is currently being sought in connection with the incident,” Kawala said.
Social Media Accounts Under Investigation
The death has sparked speculation on social media, with several accounts circulating different versions of what may have happened.
One unverified account attributed to Turindamukama alleges that a man identified only as Muhammad was involved in Namuwulya’s death.
The account claims the two women met the man through the dating platform Tinder and that Namuwulya later took money from him. It further alleges that the man traced the women to their rented room, where a confrontation allegedly occurred and Namuwulya was killed.
The same account claims Turindamukama fled the residence following the incident.
Other social media posts have alleged that Turindamukama left Uganda and that messages were subsequently sent using Namuwulya’s identity.
However, police have not confirmed these claims. Investigators have also not established the identity of the alleged Muhammad or confirmed whether he had any connection to the death.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Namuwulya’s death and are working to trace Turindamukama to assist with the inquiries.
Kawala urged members of the public with information that could help investigators identify or locate the suspect to report to the nearest police station.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations circulating on social media have not been independently verified by police.
