Sudhir Ruparelia Receives Shs2.25bn Dividend From Bank of Baroda Shares

Businessman Sudhir Ruparelia has received a Shs2.25 billion dividend from his Bank of Baroda Uganda shares following the lender’s strong 2025 financial performance.

KAMPALA — Businessman and Ruparelia Group chairman Sudhir Ruparelia has received Shs2.25 billion in dividends from his investment in Bank of Baroda (Uganda) Limited following the lender’s strong financial performance in 2025.

Mr Ruparelia received a ceremonial cheque worth Shs2,250,981,000 during a presentation on August 19, according to details accompanying the payment.

The dividend relates to his shareholding in the listed bank for the financial year ended December 31, 2025.

Bank of Baroda Uganda shareholders approved a dividend of Shs6 per share, an increase from the Shs4 per share paid for the previous financial year.

Mr Ruparelia is reported to hold about 375.16 million shares, equivalent to roughly 2.5 per cent of the bank, making him one of the lender’s notable individual shareholders.

The payout follows a strong financial year for Bank of Baroda Uganda, which reported profit after tax of about Shs156.8 billion for 2025.

The bank’s shareholders subsequently approved the proposed dividend at its Annual General Meeting, paving the way for distribution to investors after completion of the required regulatory processes.

Investment returns

The dividend highlights the income that investors can earn from sizeable holdings in profitable listed companies, particularly when businesses increase their shareholder distributions.

For Mr Ruparelia, the Bank of Baroda investment forms part of a broader portfolio that spans real estate, hospitality, education and financial services.

He is the founder and chairman of Ruparelia Group, a Ugandan business conglomerate with interests in several sectors.

His investment in the financial sector has been maintained over several years, with the Bank of Baroda stake forming part of his wider investment portfolio.

The latest dividend also comes amid continued interest in Uganda’s capital markets as investors seek opportunities that can provide both regular income and long-term value.

Bank of Baroda Uganda and Ruparelia Group had not issued separate statements on the dividend payment by the time of publication.

The Shs2.25 billion payout demonstrates the potential income from significant equity investments when listed companies record strong earnings and maintain or increase dividend payments to shareholders.
