Mukono: The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has launched a Ramadan food distribution campaign in Mukono District, calling on Muslims to uphold discipline, unity and spiritual devotion during the holy month.
The campaign was launched on Saturday at Masjid Ulama in Kiwanga, Goma Division, and Masjid Noor in Seeta, before culminating at Masjid Atiiq in Mukono Town, where hundreds of worshippers gathered to receive food relief.
Addressing the faithful at Masjid Ulama, Namyalo commended the Muslim community for what she described as its consistent support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, saying the fraternity’s patriotism had contributed to national stability over the years.
She used the occasion to caution Muslim men against contracting multiple marriages without the financial capacity to support their families. While acknowledging that Islam permits polygamy, she urged restraint and responsibility.
“It is permitted, but it is not compulsory,” Hajjat Namyalo said. “If you examine yourself and realise you do not have the capacity, do not make Allah’s people suffer. Concentrate on the one wife you can support and serve properly.”
On socio-economic transformation, she encouraged Muslims to embrace government poverty-eradication programmes, particularly those structured to operate without riba (interest). She noted that concerns about interest-based financing had been partly addressed with the establishment of Salam Bank in 2024, which operates in line with Islamic banking principles.
Hajjat Namyalo urged mosque communities to take the lead in wealth creation by forming Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) to mobilise resources and access government support.
“Let us stop lamenting about poverty year after year,” she said. “Form a SACCO, organise yourselves, and allow leaders to help you source additional funding. Financial empowerment is what will enable us to transform our lives.”
She also appealed to Muslims who hold influential positions to remain humble, reminding them that leadership is a trust from Allah meant to uplift the poor and vulnerable.

Speaking later at Masjid Atiiq in Mukono Town, Hajjat Namyalo said the Ramadan outreach was intended to support fasting families and demonstrate solidarity with the Muslim community.
“On behalf of the Office of the National Chairman, I thank the Muslim community of Mukono for the warm welcome, discipline and unity,” she said. “This initiative is meant to stand with fasting families during this holy month.”
She added that the ONC would continue to prioritise community welfare and ensure that relief reaches vulnerable households. The food packages distributed included wheat flour, rice, sugar and cooking oil, targeting elderly persons, vulnerable families and mosque communities.
Namyalo urged Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for peace, stability and continued socio-economic transformation.
“Let us pray for peace and development in our country,” she said. “May Allah accept your fasting and prayers.”
The ONC Ramadan outreach campaign is expected to continue across the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area and neighbouring districts in the coming days.
