The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has extended its Ramadan outreach programme to Muslim students at Makerere University, encouraging them to uphold discipline, faith and responsible living during the holy month.

The engagement, held on Tuesday at the university’s main mosque, was led by the Head of the Office of the National Chairman, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye.

She was received by the leadership of the Makerere University Muslim Students Association (MUMSA), led by its chairman Kayiwa Shuraihu Musa, alongside the University Imam Dr. Sowedi Mayanja and Deputy University Imam Muhammed Musungule.

While addressing the students, Namyalo commended the Muslim community at the university for maintaining discipline and harmony within the campus environment. She urged the students to remain calm, patient and focused on both their academic and spiritual growth.

She also emphasised the importance of moral responsibility among young people, encouraging students to abstain from sexual relations before marriage and to remain mindful of the risks associated with HIV/AIDS.

Namyalo further called upon the leadership of MUMSA to revive Quran competitions at the university, noting that such initiatives would help strengthen faith, unity and religious values among Muslim students. She pledged support from the Office of the National Chairman towards the revival of the competitions.

During the engagement, the leadership of MUMSA expressed appreciation for the support extended by ONC towards the welfare of Muslim students during Ramadan.

According to Kayiwa, the association received 200 boxes of food support to facilitate the MUMSA Iftar and Sahoor programme for students observing the fast.

“On behalf of MUMSA, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the generous contribution of two hundred boxes towards the MUMSA Iftar and Sahoor programme. Your timely support greatly contributed to the success of this initiative,” he said.

He added that the support enabled many Muslim students to break their fast and observe Sahoor with dignity throughout the Ramadan period.

The outreach is part of ONC’s broader Ramadan programme aimed at supporting Muslim communities in institutions of learning while encouraging young people to remain grounded in faith, discipline and positive values during the holy month.
