A new classroom block has been launched at Kakiri Primary School in Kakiri Parish, Kacheera Sub-county, Rakai District, in a move aimed at improving learning conditions and expanding education infrastructure in the area.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together community members, district leaders, education officials, and school administrators, who welcomed the project as a step toward addressing congestion and enhancing academic performance.
The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Coordinator for Rakai District, Bukenya John, joined technical officials and political leaders to officially launch the construction works.
Speaking at the event, Headteacher Tusimire Joan expressed gratitude to the government for funding the classroom block, noting that the facility will ease congestion and improve the learning environment. She also appealed to parents to provide lunch for their children, saying adequate nutrition would improve concentration and performance.
The LC II Chairperson, Namanya Amon, welcomed the visitors and thanked the government for prioritising infrastructure development in Kakiri Parish. He said the project demonstrates commitment to improving service delivery in rural schools.
Representing the District Education Officer, Eddy Lubega conveyed appreciation to district leadership for supporting the project. He urged the community to plant trees around the school to create a conducive learning environment and announced plans to construct additional toilet facilities. He noted that the school currently has one toilet block with four stances, which is inadequate for the growing pupil population.
Area Councillor and Secretary for Education in Kacheera Sub-county, Talemwa Anatooli, praised the initiative but also called on teachers to reduce absenteeism and remain committed to their duties to improve academic standards.
Meanwhile, the Woman Councillor for Kacheera Sub-county, Kukumba Sharifa, and Direct Councillor Babikyengire Francis commended the government for funding the project, valued at more than Shs100 million. They urged residents to monitor construction works to ensure quality and transparency.
Rakai District Secretary for Education, Sonko Sekandi Miriam, also encouraged parents to prioritise providing meals for their children and called on the School Management Committee to mobilise families to support learners. She thanked district leadership for effective utilisation of government resources.
The LCV Chairperson for Rakai District, Ssekamwa Kaggwa Samuel, expressed appreciation to residents for supporting government programmes. He reiterated the importance of parental involvement, particularly providing lunch to pupils to improve concentration in class.
In his remarks, ONC Coordinator Bukenya commended district education officials for initiating the project and reaffirmed government commitment to improving education infrastructure across the country.
The construction of the classroom block is expected to ease overcrowding and improve learning conditions at the school. Leaders at the event emphasised that community participation, proper supervision, and parental support will be critical to ensuring the success of the project.
