Kampala — The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, on Monday evening hosted Muslim leaders and National Resistance Movement (NRM) district chairpersons for an Iftar dinner at the ONC offices in Kyambogo.

The gathering, held during the holy month of Ramadan, brought together religious leaders and political figures to break the fast in a spirit of unity, reflection and community solidarity. Organisers said the event was intended to strengthen ties between the Office of the National Chairman and the Muslim community.

The dinner forms part of a series of Ramadan outreach activities spearheaded by Ms Namyalo aimed at appreciating the Muslim faithful and promoting the values of compassion, faith and togetherness that define the sacred month.

In recent weeks, she has organised similar gatherings in different parts of the country, including an Iftar dinner in Iganga, where she met local leaders and members of the Muslim community. She also hosted a large Iftar event at Lugogo Millennium Park in Kampala, which was attended by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the chief guest.

The delegation of NRM district chairpersons was led by John Baptist Wamala, the Mukono District NRM chairperson and national coordinator for municipal and city division chairpersons.

Mr Wamala commended Ms Namyalo for her efforts to bring the Office of the National Chairman closer to communities, saying her grassroots mobilisation initiatives had strengthened support for the ruling party during recent elections, particularly in the Buganda region.

“Her outreach programmes have helped strengthen support for President Museveni, especially in Buganda where we witnessed strong backing for the NRM,” he said, adding that such engagements allow party leaders to interact more directly with local communities.

Also speaking at the event, Christopher Nkoyoyo, the NRM district chairperson for Nakasongola, thanked Ms Namyalo for organising the dinner and offered prayers for success in her work.

In her remarks, Ms Namyalo thanked Muslim leaders for their prayers and NRM chairpersons for honouring the invitation.

She urged leaders to mobilise communities to embrace government programmes aimed at improving household incomes and reducing poverty.

“Poverty knows no religion and it knows no tribe. That is why we must all embrace the message of wealth creation championed by President Museveni,” she said.

Ms Namyalo also encouraged women to play a more active role in building stable families and communities through hard work and cooperation.

She further pledged to follow up on concerns raised by district chairpersons, including a request to remind the President about previously pledged vehicles and to organise a meeting between local leaders and the Head of State.

Muslim clerics led prayers during the gathering, emphasising the spiritual importance of Ramadan and calling on believers to uphold values of righteousness, generosity and unity.

Among them was Taibu Mutyaba, director of Bilal Islamic Institute Kakyiri, who quoted the Holy Qur’an while addressing the congregation.

“O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may attain righteousness,” he said.

The event was also attended by Hussein Sekajja, the Super Supreme Kadhi of Kampala, who represented the Supreme Mufti as chief guest.

Clerics reminded attendees that Ramadan is not only about fasting but also about strengthening social bonds, promoting generosity and fostering unity within communities.
