The Minister of State for General Duties at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, has commended the progress of works at the Inspire Africa Coffee Park, describing the project as a strategic investment aligned with government’s agro-industrialisation agenda.
Musasizi made the remarks during a monitoring visit to the facility in Ntungamo District on Monday, accompanied by Amos Kankunda, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Planning and Economic Development. The visit aimed at assessing the progress of the coffee value-addition project.
The minister appreciated the pace of implementation, noting that the initiative supports the government’s strategy of expanding the economy through agro-industrialisation, with emphasis on value addition, job creation, and export growth. He said investments of this nature are crucial in transforming Uganda’s agricultural sector.
“Indeed there is value for money. Government’s decision to invest in this coffee park was a wise idea,” Musasizi said, adding that the ministry would continue supporting such projects to ensure they contribute to national development goals.
Musasizi further noted that boosting value addition in coffee is expected to increase Uganda’s export earnings while creating employment opportunities along the value chain.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Inspire Africa Coffee Park, Nelson Tugume, who led the delegation on a guided tour, said construction works and installation of machinery and equipment were nearing completion. He expressed appreciation to the government for supporting the project, emphasizing that the facility will enhance Uganda’s coffee processing capacity.
Tugume added that once operational, the coffee park will promote industrialisation and strengthen Uganda’s competitiveness in the global coffee market.
Kankunda described the coffee park as a strategic investment in the country’s coffee sector and called for continued government support. He urged Members of Parliament to regularly visit such projects as part of their oversight role to ensure value for public resources.
“This is a strategic investment that should be supported. Parliament should continue monitoring projects like this to ensure they deliver the intended impact,” Kankunda said.
The Inspire Africa Coffee Park is expected to play a significant role in promoting value addition to Uganda’s coffee, improving farmer incomes, and supporting the country’s broader economic transformation agenda.
