BUSHENYI — Police in Bushenyi District are investigating a road accident involving a Global Bus and a tipper truck along the Ishaka–Mbarara highway that left two people seriously injured.
The crash occurred on Friday morning near Banyankole Coffee Factory in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality.
According to Apollo Tayebwa, the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson, the accident involved a Global Bus registration number UBE 159N and a Forward tipper truck registration number UBK 390M.
Tayebwa said the driver of the tipper truck sustained critical injuries, while his turn boy was also seriously injured. The two were rushed to Kampala International University (KIU) Teaching Hospital in Ishaka for emergency treatment.
No fatalities had been reported by press time.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the crash was caused by reckless driving and speeding by the bus driver.
Witness accounts and initial reports suggest the bus was attempting to overtake three vehicles at once when it collided head-on with the oncoming tipper truck.
Police condemned the incident, describing it as a clear disregard for road safety and other road users.
“One mistake on the road can lead to the loss of many lives. We urge all motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations,” Tayebwa said.
Authorities confirmed that the bus driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend him as investigations continue.
The wreckage was towed from the scene as police assess the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
