Kampala- A section of National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilisers from Kampala’s five divisions have petitioned the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), protesting alleged exclusion from preparations for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony.

The group, drawn from Kampala Central, Kawempe, Makindye, Nakawa and Rubaga divisions, was led by Kampala Region ONC Coordinator Maureen Tumusiime, who presented their concerns to ONC Manager Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye.

The mobilisers expressed dissatisfaction over what they described as limited involvement in mobilisation activities and invitation arrangements for the ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Kololo Independence Grounds.

Tumusiime said Kampala mobilisers played a central role in the recently concluded election campaign and deserved recognition and inclusion in the inauguration activities.

“We sacrificed our time, resources and energy to mobilise support for President Museveni across Kampala and contributed significantly to the victory. It is unfair to be left out at such a key national moment,” she said.

She added that while mobilisation structures in other regions appeared to have been facilitated, Kampala teams remained uncertain about their role and participation.

One of the mobilisers, Mirembe Zainabu Namakula from Kawempe Division, said many supporters in Kampala were eager to participate in the ceremony but lacked coordination and logistical support.

“We are only asking to be recognised and involved in this historic national event after our role in the campaigns,” she said.

In response, Hajjat Namyalo thanked the mobilisers for their commitment to the ruling party and President Museveni, describing them as a key pillar of the NRM support base in Kampala.

“You are the backbone of the NRM victory in Kampala and your contribution cannot be ignored,” she said.

She assured them that their concerns would be followed up and efforts made to ensure inclusion in the mobilisation structures for the swearing-in ceremony.

“I will engage the relevant authorities to ensure Kampala mobilisers are not left behind. Whatever resources are available will be shared to make the ceremony a success,” she added.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to attract thousands of Ugandans, political leaders, diplomats and international guests at Kololo Independence Grounds.

It will formally usher in President Museveni’s new term following his victory in the 2026 General Election, marking the start of a new phase of governance focused on economic transformation, youth empowerment and national development.
