The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has introduced a new Short Message Service (SMS) platform that allows candidates, parents, and guardians to easily verify the registration status of learners ahead of national examinations.
According to UNEB, the service is designed to improve transparency, reduce registration errors, and ensure that all candidates sitting for examinations are properly and accurately registered.
To check a candidate’s registration status, users are required to send the candidate’s full index number via SMS to 6600. The system will then return the registration details, enabling parents and guardians to confirm whether their children have been duly registered for the upcoming examinations.
UNEB has urged parents and guardians to take a more active role in the registration process, emphasizing the importance of verifying all personal details submitted on behalf of candidates. The Board noted that inaccuracies in registration data can lead to examination complications, including mismatched identity details or delayed results processing.
In addition, UNEB reiterated its strict guidelines regarding examination conduct, reminding learners, parents, and heads of examination centres that the use of erasable pens is strictly prohibited in all national examinations. The Board stressed that candidates must adhere to approved writing materials to maintain the integrity and standardization of the assessment process.
Education officials have welcomed the SMS initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that enhances efficiency and accountability in the examination registration process, especially as the Board continues to digitize its systems.
UNEB is expected to continue sensitization campaigns in schools and communities as the registration period progresses, encouraging all stakeholders to comply with guidelines to ensure a smooth examination cycle.
