Over 500 households already paid Shs 5 million each as verification expands under PDMIS system
Kampala, Uganda — The Government of Uganda has commenced compensation payments to households in the Acholi, Lango, and Teso sub-regions that lost livestock during past insurgencies and cattle rustling incidents.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), the exercise marks a key milestone in efforts to address long-standing grievances linked to conflict-related losses and restore livelihoods in affected communities.
The OPM Permanent Secretary, Alex Kakooza, confirmed that 559 households have already received compensation, with each beneficiary receiving Shs 5 million.
He further noted that the verification and data capture process is ongoing, with 1,504 households already uploaded into the Parish Development Management Information System (PDMIS) out of a total of 16,000 targeted households.
“This process is being implemented in phases to ensure accuracy, transparency, and fairness in identifying rightful beneficiaries,” Kakooza said.
The compensation programme is part of broader government efforts to support recovery in regions affected by years of insecurity and cattle rustling, particularly in northern and eastern Uganda.
Officials say the use of the PDMIS platform is intended to streamline verification and reduce duplication, ensuring that only eligible households receive payments.
The exercise is expected to continue as more households are verified and integrated into the payment system in the coming phases.
