Hon. Nalule Joanitah Builds Momentum for National Women’s Leadership Bid

Nalule Joanitah, Masaka District Women Council chairperson, builds grassroots support as she prepares to contest for a national women’s leadership position.

MASAKA — Newly elected Masaka District Women Council Chairperson Nalule Joanitah is positioning herself for a bigger leadership role after building a strong grassroots following among women across the Greater Masaka subregion.

Hon. Nalule, who hails from Bukakata Sub-county, emerged from the January 2026 elections with a strong mandate from women in the district, although the outcome of the closely contested race remains the subject of a court petition.

The petition is still before the courts, but Hon. Nalule has continued to undertake her leadership responsibilities and engage women at the grassroots on issues affecting their livelihoods and access to essential services.

Her supporters say her appeal is rooted in her direct involvement in community activities and her ability to mobilise women around development programmes.

Hon. Nalule also comes from a prominent business family in Masaka District and the wider region. Her father is a well-known businessman, a background that has given her visibility and established networks within the community.

However, her supporters maintain that her political rise has also been driven by her grassroots engagements and her efforts to remain connected to women in the communities.

As district Women Council chairperson, Hon. Nalule is expected to prioritise initiatives aimed at improving women’s participation in local development, expanding access to government services and supporting programmes that can improve household incomes.

Her leadership strategy focuses on bringing development closer to women, particularly those at the grassroots who face challenges accessing economic opportunities and public services.

Hon. Nalule has continued to engage women’s groups, community leaders and other stakeholders across Masaka District, strengthening her network and maintaining visibility at the grassroots.

Her growing influence is now expected to extend beyond Masaka. She is preparing to engage delegates from other districts as she seeks support for a possible bid for a national-level women’s leadership position.

If successful, the move would give Hon. Nalule a wider platform to champion issues affecting women and push for greater participation of women in decision-making and community development.

Her rise comes at a time when women’s representation in local and national leadership remains a key part of efforts to increase women’s participation in governance and development.
