President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned a new research and ideological centre at National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi, aimed at advancing Pan-African thought, preserving Uganda’s liberation history, and strengthening the ruling party’s intellectual direction.
The launch, held on the sidelines of the ongoing National Resistance Movement Leaders’ Retreat, included the groundbreaking of the Rtd Gen Caleb Akandwanaho School of Research and the Walter Rodney Block.
Rtd Gen Caleb Akandwanaho, widely known as Salim Saleh and a key figure in the National Resistance Army (NRA) struggle, is recognised for his role in Uganda’s liberation war and post-conflict reconstruction.
Officials said the new complex will serve as a strategic hub for ideological training, intellectual engagement, and research, with a focus on promoting Pan-African integration, African cultural values, and policy-oriented discourse.
The facility is also expected to provide a platform for developing ideas to guide Africa’s socio-political and economic transformation, in line with the NRM’s long-term vision.
