KAMPALA — The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has registered 17,790 businesses through its Mass Business Registration Initiative since the programme was launched in the 2023/24 financial year.
The initiative, now in its fourth year, seeks to bring business registration services closer to entrepreneurs, increase public awareness and encourage businesses operating in the informal economy to formalise their operations.
Over the first three financial years, URSB conducted 187 mobile registration clinics across the country, reaching 60,199 clients and generating Shs8.66 billion in non-tax revenue.
The number of businesses registered through the initiative has increased steadily each financial year.
URSB recorded 3,195 registrations in the 2023/24 financial year, rising to 6,856 in 2024/25 before reaching 7,739 in 2025/26.
The bureau says the mobile clinics are intended to address some of the barriers entrepreneurs face in accessing registration services by taking the process closer to communities.
The initiative also seeks to improve awareness about the importance of formalising businesses, including access to opportunities and compliance with government requirements.
The increase in registrations comes as government continues to promote formalisation of businesses as part of efforts to broaden the tax base and improve the business environment.
URSB has continued to use the mobile clinics to reach entrepreneurs who may otherwise have to travel to its offices to access registration services.
