KAMPALA — Ugandans planning to spend the Independence Day holiday without travelling far from Kampala will have the option of combining a lakeside stay with meals and recreational activities under a special package unveiled by Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The resort has introduced a Freedom Getaway package for the October 9, 2026 holiday, targeting individuals, couples and families looking for a short break during the national celebrations.
Located on the shores of Lake Victoria in Munyonyo, Kampala, the five-star resort is offering a single Deluxe Room at $120 (about Shs468,000) per night and a double Deluxe Room at $149 (about Shs582,000).
The rates include applicable taxes, breakfast and lunch, as well as complimentary access to the health club, swimming pool, steam room and sauna.
Management said the package is designed to provide guests with accommodation, meals and leisure activities within the resort during the Independence Day break.
Speke Resort, owned by businessman Sudhir Ruparelia and part of the Ruparelia Group, has established itself as a venue for conferences, business meetings, summits and leisure activities.
The property has 477 rooms and suites, several restaurants and dining outlets, a convention centre, an Olympic-size swimming pool and an equestrian centre.
Its location on the shores of Lake Victoria also gives guests access to a range of recreational and wellness facilities without having to travel outside Kampala.
Visitors taking up the package can spend their holiday swimming, using the health club facilities, enjoying wellness services or participating in equestrian activities.
The October 9 holiday marks Uganda’s attainment of independence from British colonial rule in 1962.
For hotels and resorts, public holidays provide an opportunity to attract domestic travellers seeking short breaks, particularly those who may not have the time or resources for longer journeys.
The Freedom Getaway comes as hospitality businesses prepare special offers for the October holiday period.
Domestic tourism has increasingly become an important market for hotels, lodges and resorts, with staycations offering city residents an alternative to travelling long distances for leisure.
Speke Resort’s package combines accommodation and meals with access to recreational facilities, allowing guests to spend much of their holiday within the property.
The resort has continued to cater to both business and leisure travellers, supported by its conference facilities and location.
It has previously received recognition from international hospitality awards, including being named Uganda’s Leading Conference Hotel 2026 by the World Travel Awards, according to the resort.
The property has also been recognised at the Luxe Global Awards.
Beyond accommodation, the resort’s convention facilities have made it a venue for major conferences and other high-profile gatherings.
Its lakeside location and recreational facilities have also made it a destination for visitors seeking leisure activities within Kampala.
Bookings
Guests interested in the Freedom Getaway package can make reservations or enquiries through the resort’s reservations team.
Bookings can be made by telephone on +256 752 711714 or +256 414 227111, or by email at reservations@spekeresort.com.
The resort has advised potential guests to make reservations early, particularly as demand for accommodation can increase around public holidays.
With October 9 falling on a Friday this year, the Independence Day holiday also creates an opportunity for some travellers to extend their break over the weekend.
