KAMPALA. The Ruparelia family has reaffirmed its connection to Victoria University, with representatives of businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia attending the institution’s landmark 10th graduation ceremony at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
Mr Jay Sakaria, vice chairperson of the Victoria University Council, and Ms Meera Ruparelia, a member of the university’s Board of Directors, represented Dr Ruparelia at the ceremony, which marked a decade of the institution’s development in Uganda’s higher education sector.
Dr Ruparelia, chairman of the Ruparelia Group, has played a significant role in supporting the university’s growth and ambitions as it seeks to strengthen its position in the country’s competitive higher education market.
During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof Lawrence Muganga expressed gratitude to Dr Ruparelia and the Ruparelia Group for their contribution to the university’s progress.
Prof Muganga commended Dr Ruparelia’s continued support, describing it as an important pillar in the institution’s development and pursuit of academic excellence.
The attendance of Mr Sakaria and Ms Ruparelia also highlighted the role of the university’s governing structures in its continued development, with both representatives holding positions within its leadership.
The graduation came at a time when Victoria University is seeking to consolidate its academic standing nationally.
According to the National Council for Higher Education’s revised institutional ranking report, Victoria University scored 87.4 points to rank second nationally, behind Makerere University, which recorded 88.9 points. Kampala International University followed with 85.8 points.
The ranking offers an indication of the university’s performance as it marks ten years of operations and looks to strengthen its academic programmes and institutional capacity.
Victoria University has increasingly emphasised innovation, practical learning and skills development as part of its efforts to prepare graduates for the changing demands of Uganda’s labour market.
As the institution enters its next phase of growth, its focus remains on improving academic quality and equipping graduates with skills that can contribute to the country’s social and economic transformation.
