The NRM Electoral Commission has issued a call for Expression of Interest and picking of nomination forms for party flagbearers seeking to represent Uganda in the East African Legislative Assembly for the 2022–2027 term of office.
The exercise, announced on Monday, is aimed at filling vacancies created after Denis Namara and James Kakooza were elected to Uganda’s 12th Parliament in January, prompting the need for replacements.
Addressing a press conference, the Commission Chairperson, Tanga Odoi, said interested members of the National Resistance Movement should submit a written Expression of Interest letter accompanied by an updated Curriculum Vitae.
Dr Odoi noted that submissions must be delivered to the Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission at Plot 13, Kyadondo Road, within the specified timeframe. The process began on Monday, March 23, 2026, and will close on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 5:00pm.
He further explained that nomination of candidates will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, starting at 9:00am and ending at 5:00pm at the Commission offices.
The Commission urged interested aspirants to comply with all requirements within the stipulated deadlines to ensure a smooth nomination process. The exercise is part of the party’s internal mechanisms to identify candidates who will contest for Uganda’s representation in the regional legislative assembly.
The East African Legislative Assembly is the legislative arm of the East African Community, responsible for debating and passing laws that guide regional integration among member states. Uganda, like other partner states, sends representatives nominated through parliamentary processes, with political parties selecting their candidates internally.
The NRM Electoral Commission said further guidance will be issued after the nomination exercise, including timelines for campaigns and voting procedures, as the party prepares to fill the vacant positions.
