Kampala — Businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has donated Shs100 million towards a charity run organised to mark the 52nd birthday of Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in an event that attracted hundreds of participants, including senior government officials and private sector leaders.

The donation was confirmed during the “Run for Hope” charity event held in Kampala, where organisers said the funds will support community programmes targeting vulnerable groups, particularly in health and education.

Dr. Ruparelia also joined participants at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, adding prominence to an event that blended fitness activities with fundraising and public engagement.

Gen. Muhoozi, in a message shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, thanked Dr. Ruparelia for attending the event and praised his contribution to the business community, describing him as a key supporter of national development initiatives.

“I thank our beloved elder Mr. Sudhir Ruparelia for attending the birthday run,” Gen. Muhoozi posted, in reference to the tycoon’s participation and support.

The charity run, held under the theme “Run for Hope,” brought together government officials, business leaders, youth groups, and members of the public in a broad mobilisation effort aimed at raising awareness and resources for gaps in Uganda’s healthcare system, including access to medicines and treatment for vulnerable communities.

Dr. Ruparelia’s contribution was among the key boosts to the fundraising drive, which has increasingly attracted participation from Uganda’s corporate sector and political elite.

Speaking at the event, participants highlighted the growing role of private sector involvement in social initiatives, noting that such partnerships are vital in bridging service delivery gaps and supporting community welfare.

Gen. Muhoozi called for sustained collaboration between government, the private sector, and citizens in addressing social challenges, urging more stakeholders to support similar initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.

The annual birthday run has grown into a major public event, combining charity, civic engagement, and public participation, drawing increasing numbers of Ugandans each year.
