President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called for renewed discipline, accountability, and productivity across all levels of leadership and public service as Uganda enters a new phase of socio-economic transformation.
Delivering the State of the Nation Address on Thursday, the President emphasized that the country’s future prosperity depends on hard work, effective service delivery, and a collective commitment to eliminating corruption and inefficiency.
Addressing Parliament and the nation, Museveni thanked Ugandans for participating peacefully in the recently concluded 2026 General Elections and commended citizens for maintaining stability throughout the electoral process.
The President also clarified his widely discussed slogan, “No More Sleep,” explaining that it should not be interpreted literally but rather as a call for greater vigilance, commitment, and performance among leaders and public servants.
“I put forward the call of ‘No More Sleep.’ Some people are already distorting it as just no sleep. It is NO MORE SLEEP,” Museveni said.
He explained that the message is intended to inspire urgency in implementing government programmes, improving service delivery, and ensuring that leaders remain focused on national priorities.
Zero Tolerance for Corruption
A major theme of the address was the fight against corruption. Museveni reiterated his government’s commitment to combating graft, misuse of public resources, and non-performance within public institutions.
He warned against leaders who seek public office for personal gain rather than service and stressed that every public official must be held accountable for results.
The President said corruption continues to undermine development efforts and deprives citizens of services that government intends to provide.
Focus on Wealth Creation
Museveni further highlighted Uganda’s long-term development agenda, noting that the country has made significant progress in moving citizens from subsistence livelihoods toward participation in the money economy.
He said government programmes aimed at wealth creation are helping households improve incomes through commercial agriculture, small businesses, industrial activities, and service-sector opportunities.
The President pointed to initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) as critical tools for extending financial inclusion and empowering communities at the grassroots.
According to Museveni, the success of these programmes will depend on transparency, proper implementation, and active participation by beneficiaries.
Infrastructure and Service Delivery
The President also outlined ongoing investments in infrastructure, including roads, electricity, and other public services designed to support economic growth and improve the quality of life for Ugandans.
He urged government officials to ensure that public projects are implemented efficiently and without corruption, emphasizing value for money in public expenditure.
Museveni said improved infrastructure remains essential for attracting investment, facilitating trade, and supporting industrialization.
Peace and Security
On security, the President reaffirmed that peace and stability remain the foundation upon which Uganda’s development agenda is built.
He praised the country’s security institutions for maintaining order and urged citizens to remain vigilant in safeguarding national unity and stability.
The President said Uganda’s continued progress depends on preserving peace while creating opportunities for economic advancement and social development.
Call for Collective Action
Concluding his address, Museveni called upon leaders, public servants, and citizens to embrace a culture of hard work, integrity, and patriotism.
He urged Ugandans to reject corruption, prioritize productivity, and work together toward building a prosperous, self-reliant, and modern nation.
The President’s address set the tone for government’s priorities in the coming years, with a strong emphasis on accountability, wealth creation, service delivery, and accelerated socio-economic transformation.
