A 31-year-old woman has been arrested in Arua after police intercepted 100 kilograms of suspected marijuana at a major transport hub, in what authorities describe as a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb narcotics trafficking along the West Nile–Kampala corridor.
The suspect, a saloon operator from Ayivu East Division, was apprehended at the Baby Coach Bus Terminal while allegedly preparing to board a vehicle to Kampala.
According to police, the illicit consignment had been concealed in two sealed boxes and mixed with tobacco leaves, a tactic investigators say was intended to evade routine security checks at the busy terminal.
Security officials noted that traffickers are increasingly adopting sophisticated concealment methods, blending narcotics with legitimate goods to avoid detection during transit.

The suspect is currently being held in custody as investigations continue to trace the source of the drugs and uncover individuals linked to the operation.
Police further indicated that the arrest forms part of broader enforcement efforts targeting organised drug trafficking networks operating along key transport routes connecting the West Nile sub-region to the capital.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance and intelligence-led operations to disrupt the flow of illegal substances across the country.
