NGORA DISTRICT — A monitoring exercise by the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has revealed encouraging signs of economic progress among beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Ngora District, with many reporting increased incomes, business expansion, and improved household welfare.

The exercise, conducted by ONC District Coordinator Mr. Jimmy Akol, formed part of ongoing efforts to assess the effectiveness of government interventions aimed at promoting household wealth creation and socio-economic transformation at the grassroots level.

The monitoring team visited several beneficiaries across different parishes in the district to evaluate how PDM funds have been invested and the impact they are having on livelihoods.

According to Mr. Akol, the findings indicate that many beneficiaries have utilized the funds for productive investments in sectors such as livestock farming, poultry keeping, crop production, and small-scale trade.

“We are seeing encouraging results from beneficiaries who have invested the funds in viable enterprises. Many have expanded their businesses, increased agricultural production, improved food security, and strengthened their household incomes,” he said.

During the field visits, beneficiaries shared testimonies of how the programme has enabled them to grow their enterprises and improve their living standards. Some reported acquiring productive assets, expanding farming activities, and supporting their families through increased earnings generated from PDM-funded projects.

Others noted that proceeds from their enterprises have enabled them to pay school fees, improve housing conditions, and create employment opportunities within their communities.

Mr. Akol attributed part of the programme’s success to the efforts of parish SACCO leaders, local government officials, and community mobilisers who continue to support implementation and provide guidance to beneficiaries.

“The collaboration between local leaders, SACCO management committees, and beneficiaries has played an important role in ensuring that the funds are invested in productive ventures. Continued monitoring, mentorship, and accountability will be key to sustaining these gains,” he noted.

The Parish Development Model is a government programme designed to move households from subsistence production into the money economy through investment in income-generating enterprises. Under the programme, funds are channelled through parish SACCOs to support eligible beneficiaries in establishing and expanding productive ventures.

The ONC monitoring exercise is part of broader efforts to track the impact of government programmes, document success stories, identify implementation challenges, and promote accountability in the utilization of public resources.

Officials say the progress registered by beneficiaries in Ngora District demonstrates the potential of the Parish Development Model to contribute to household income growth, enterprise development, and long-term socio-economic transformation when funds are invested effectively.

As monitoring continues across the country, government agencies remain focused on ensuring that public investments under the Parish Development Model translate into measurable improvements in livelihoods and sustainable economic opportunities for Ugandan households.
