KAMPALA — Ugandan musician King Saha has been released from police custody following his arrest in Kyanja, Kampala, amid reports that several members of his team were injured during the incident.

The singer was reportedly taken into custody by armed security personnel on Tuesday and detained at Jinja Road Police Station for several hours before his release later in the evening.

Following his release, Saha went to Mulago National Referral Hospital to check on members of his team who had been injured during the operation.

“I could not head straight home before checking their situation,” Saha said in a brief statement after his release, describing the incident as “very sad” and indicating that he would provide more details later.

Videos shared on social media showed some members of the singer’s team receiving medical attention at Mulago. One of the individuals appeared to have sustained a serious injury to the leg.

The circumstances surrounding Saha’s arrest remained unclear by Wednesday morning, with neither the police nor other security agencies publicly giving a detailed explanation for his detention.

Footage circulating online showed armed personnel at the scene in Kyanja. Some of the officers were seen wearing jackets marked JATT, initials commonly associated with the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce, a multi-agency security operation.

The footage has since generated debate on social media, particularly over the manner in which the operation was conducted.

Saha had been involved in promotional activities for his upcoming Tondeka Ekololo concert, which is scheduled for Friday.

The incident has also drawn criticism from filmmaker Ninye Tabz, who condemned what she described as excessive force against members of the musician’s team.

However, the circumstances leading to the confrontation, including whether any offences were committed and why security personnel intervened, had not been officially explained at the time of publication.

Although the musician has confirmed his release and visited his injured colleagues, he has not yet provided a detailed account of what happened during the arrest.

His brief comments suggest that he intends to address the incident at a later stage.

Meanwhile, questions remain over the identities of the officers involved, the reason for the operation and the nature of the injuries sustained by members of his team.

Police and the relevant security agencies had not issued a substantive public statement on the matter by Wednesday morning.

The developments come as Saha prepares for his concert, with the incident potentially raising fresh concerns among his fans and members of his organising team ahead of the event.
