RAKAI — Rakai Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Sarah Kiyimba has been commended by residents, local leaders and elected officials for her efforts in combating corruption and promoting accountability in public service delivery.

The praise was expressed during a public engagement held at Rakai District headquarters, where the Minister for Local Government, Hon. Balam Barugahara, met Members of Parliament, district leaders and residents as part of his nationwide “Expose the Corrupt” field campaign.

Speaking at the meeting, several residents credited Ms Kiyimba with strengthening accountability in the district and taking decisive action against corruption since her appointment by President Museveni in 2021.

They cited her role in initiating action against officials accused of misconduct, including members of the District Service Commission and the District Engineer over allegations of poor-quality public works and mismanagement of government resources.

Residents also praised the RDC for maintaining neutrality in land matters and resisting attempts by land grabbers to influence her office, saying her stance has contributed to a reduction in land-related conflicts across the district.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Barugahara urged Ugandans to support government efforts aimed at eliminating corruption, describing it as one of the biggest obstacles to effective service delivery and socio-economic transformation.

He reaffirmed President Museveni’s commitment to intensifying the fight against corruption during the current political term, urging public officials to uphold integrity and accountability in the execution of their duties.

The minister also encouraged citizens to work closely with anti-corruption agencies by reporting cases of abuse of office, misuse of public funds and other forms of corruption.

During the meeting, residents appealed to President Museveni to retain Ms Kiyimba as Rakai RDC, saying her leadership has improved government supervision and promoted people-centred service delivery.

Rakai District Council Speaker Hon. Ssegirinya Kadumwa commended the RDC for maintaining a close working relationship with the district leadership, saying the cooperation between her office and the council has enhanced the implementation of government programmes.

He also acknowledged her support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and credited her with mobilising support during his election as Speaker of the District Council.

In her remarks, Ms Kiyimba thanked the residents for recognising her efforts and reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening accountability, protecting public resources and ensuring efficient delivery of government services.

She pledged to continue working with local leaders, government institutions and the public to promote transparency, fight corruption and improve the welfare of the people of Rakai District.
