KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda’s hospitality sector has received a major international boost after Speke Resort Munyonyo was named the World’s Best Luxury Convention Resort at the 2026 LUXE Global Awards.
The recognition places the lakeside resort among the world’s leading destinations for luxury accommodation, conference hosting and business tourism, strengthening Uganda’s position as an emerging hub for international meetings and events.
The award recognises the resort’s performance in areas including conference facilities, guest experience, service delivery and its ability to host large-scale international gatherings.
Tourism stakeholders said the achievement could enhance Uganda’s competitiveness in the global Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) market, where countries compete to attract high-value events that generate revenue, investment and employment.
Located on the shores of Lake Victoria, Speke Resort Munyonyo has developed into one of Uganda’s largest convention and hospitality facilities.
The resort features the Rwenzori Convention Centre, more than 34 conference and meeting venues, over 10,000 square metres of flexible event space, outdoor facilities and 476 luxury guestrooms and suites.
The infrastructure enables the resort to host multiple conferences and events simultaneously, making it a key player in Uganda’s ambitions to attract international business tourism.
Over recent years, the facility has hosted several high-profile global events, including the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit, the G77+China Third South Summit, the Commonwealth Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers, the Uganda-European Union Business Forum and the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) Annual General Assembly.
These events have showcased Uganda’s capacity to organise complex international meetings involving government leaders, diplomats, business executives and global organisations.
The latest award comes after Speke Resort Convention Centre strengthened its international profile through its membership as a Convention Centre Partner of the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO).
The resort also maintains links with global meetings industry organisations, a move that enhances its visibility among international event planners and conference organisers.
Hospitality experts said global recognition of this nature plays an important role in influencing decisions by international organisations searching for destinations with reliable infrastructure, quality accommodation and professional event management capabilities.
The award is expected to support Uganda’s efforts to position itself as a preferred destination for conferences, exhibitions and corporate events across Africa.
Beyond the achievement of an individual facility, stakeholders view the recognition as a reflection of the wider growth of Uganda’s tourism and hospitality industry, which has continued to invest in modern facilities and services capable of competing internationally.
As competition for business tourism continues to increase globally, Speke Resort Munyonyo’s latest accolade is expected to further promote Uganda’s image as a destination capable of delivering world-class hospitality and hosting major international events.
