Asha Nabulo Commissions Four-Classroom Block to Transform Learning at Bungwanyi Primary School in Sironko

SIRONKO — Pupils at Bungwanyi Government-Aided Primary School in Mafudu Sub-county are learning in newly constructed permanent classrooms following the completion of a project.

The four-classroom block, supported by Madina Masjid, was commissioned on September 21 after several years of efforts to address the school’s infrastructure challenges.

The project has replaced some of the ageing classroom facilities that had previously raised concerns about the learning environment at the school, which currently has about 400 pupils from Primary One to Primary Seven.

The intervention followed a visit to the school during the 2021 election campaign period, when Sironko District Woman Member of Parliament Asha Nabulo Mafabi said she observed the condition of the existing classrooms.

According to information about the project, Nabulo subsequently engaged stakeholders and development partners on the need for improved facilities at the school.

The discussions eventually resulted in Madina Masjid committing funds towards the construction and equipping of the four classrooms.

The completed block has since been handed over for use, with desks also provided to support teaching and learning.

For the school community, the additional classrooms have increased the available space for learners and provided facilities intended to offer a more suitable environment for lessons.

The development also highlights the role that partnerships between public institutions, elected leaders and non-government organisations can play in addressing infrastructure needs in Government-aided schools.

Bungwanyi Primary School serves learners from the surrounding communities in Mafudu Sub-county. Its enrolment of about 400 pupils places continued demand on classroom space and other school facilities.

The completion of the project comes amid broader efforts to improve learning environments in public schools, where growing enrolment and ageing infrastructure remain challenges in some communities.

For teachers and parents at Bungwanyi, the new classrooms provide additional space for learners while reducing reliance on older structures.

The project has also marked the completion of a process that began with the identification of an infrastructure need and progressed through engagement with a development partner to mobilise resources.

Nabulo, who is serving as the Sironko District Woman MP for the 2026–2031 term, has previously been associated with community development initiatives through the Mafabi Asha Foundation.

The Bungwanyi project therefore adds education infrastructure to the range of community initiatives associated with her public and development work.

With the new classrooms already in use, attention will now turn to maintaining the facilities and addressing other needs that may arise as the school’s population and demand for education services continue to grow.
