Kabira Set for Major Facelift as Sudhir Rolls Out Multi-Billion Plan

KAMPALA — City businessman Sudhir Ruparelia has unveiled an ambitious multi-billion-shilling redevelopment of Kabira Country Club, signalling a significant shift in Kampala’s hospitality and real estate landscape.
The proposed upgrade will transform the Bukoto-based facility into a modern mixed-use complex comprising high-end serviced apartments, a five-star hotel, retail outlets, and upgraded leisure amenities.
Concept designs shared by the chairman of the Ruparelia Group depict a cluster of contemporary towers with expansive glass finishes, landscaped greenery, and integrated lifestyle spaces aimed at attracting both local and international clientele.
“This development positions Kabira as a world-class lifestyle and business destination in Kampala,” an industry analyst said.
The redevelopment is being executed under the Group’s real estate arm, Meera Investments, and is expected to deliver approximately 360 serviced apartments alongside a modern shopping complex and conference facilities.
Additional features include new restaurants, a bowling alley, upgraded sports infrastructure, and enhanced wellness facilities, as developers move to meet growing demand for integrated urban living.
Construction works are being undertaken by Vcon Construction Uganda Limited, with reports indicating steady progress on key structures, including an 18-storey hotel tower expected to be completed between 2025 and 2026.
Real estate experts say the project reflects a broader trend in Kampala’s property market, where mixed-use developments are increasingly favoured for their ability to combine residential, commercial, and hospitality functions.
Kabira Country Club, long known for its boutique accommodation and sports facilities, is expected to emerge as a fully-fledged urban hub upon completion.
Analysts note the redevelopment is likely to boost employment and stimulate business activity in Bukoto and surrounding areas, while elevating standards in Uganda’s hospitality sector.
Mr Ruparelia’s portfolio includes landmark developments such as Kingdom Kampala and Speke Resort Munyonyo.
