WAKISO — Police in Wakiso District have arrested a boda boda rider on allegations of aggravated defilement involving his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
The suspect, identified as Ronald Mayanja, a resident of Lutete Village, Kumunana Zone in Nangabo Parish, Kasangati Town Council, is being held at Kasangati Central Police Station as investigations continue.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had been living under the care of the suspect after the death of her biological mother several years ago.
Police allege that the suspect sexually abused the girl on multiple occasions. Authorities received information about the alleged abuse and subsequently arrested the suspect.
“The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue,” SP Kawala said.
She added that police strongly condemn all forms of violence against children and urged the public to report suspected cases of abuse to enable timely intervention by authorities.
“We strongly condemn all forms of violence and violations of children’s rights and urge members of the public to promptly report any suspected cases to the relevant authorities,” she said.
Police said they would not disclose further details about the case in order to protect the identity and welfare of the minor.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
The incident adds to growing concerns over cases of sexual violence against minors, with authorities calling on parents, guardians and community leaders to remain vigilant and report suspected abuse.
