Kampala — The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) and Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has extended the office’s Ramadan food distribution initiative to Muslim students and security personnel as part of efforts to support fasting Muslims during the holy month.

The outreach, conducted on Monday, saw food packages delivered to Muslim students at Mutesa I Royal University and Buganda Royal Institute, institutions owned by the Buganda Kingdom.

The items were received by Mr Siraje Kizito, patron of the Muteesa University Muslim Students Association (MUMSA), alongside student leaders.

Mr Kizito commended the ONC for remembering Muslim students during the fasting period, saying the support would ease the burden for learners balancing academic work and daily meals during Ramadan.

“We thank the Office of the National Chairman and Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo for thinking about Muslim students during this fasting period. Such support helps many students who struggle to balance academic responsibilities and meals during Ramadan,” he said.

While addressing the students, Hajjat Namyalo urged them to remain disciplined and focused on their studies, stressing the importance of education, good character and faith.

She also pledged Shs10 million towards the construction of a Muslim students’ facility aimed at improving welfare and providing space for prayers and other activities.

“We shall also engage our well-off Muslim brothers and sisters to support this cause so that students can have a proper place for their activities and prayers,” she said.

From Mutesa I Royal University, the ONC team proceeded to the Female Campus of the Islamic University in Uganda in Kabojja, where they were received by the campus director, Dr Nabukeera Madinah.

Dr Nabukeera said the campus is dedicated to empowering young women through education and skills development. She revealed that the institution hosts more than 1,000 students enrolled in over 150 courses across six faculties including law, education, science, management and health sciences.

She added that the university admits students from different religious backgrounds provided they adhere to campus regulations.

“Currently about 60 percent of the learners here are Muslims while 40 percent are non-Muslims. As long as students respect the campus rules and dress code, they are welcome,” she said.

Dr Nabukeera also highlighted the institution’s Run for Girl Education charity initiative, which raises funds to support financially disadvantaged students.

According to the university, the programme has so far supported more than 480 girls to continue their education.

In a gesture of solidarity, Hajjat Namyalo donated a cow to the campus to help students celebrate the upcoming Eid festivities and break the fast together.

She encouraged female students to remain resilient and pursue their academic ambitions.

The ONC outreach later extended to Uganda Police Force officers at Kabalagala Police Division, where Hajjat Namyalo delivered 50 boxes of food relief packages on behalf of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to support Muslim officers observing Ramadan.

While addressing officers at the station, She commended them for maintaining security in the busy Kampala suburb despite the challenges associated with policing the area.

“Your work in maintaining peace and security in this area is highly appreciated. Even during Ramadan you continue serving the public diligently, and this support is meant to appreciate your commitment,” she said.

The Officer in Charge of the division, ASP Awio Morris, together with SP Ntomi Fred and ASP Nanyunja Sarah, welcomed the gesture and thanked the ONC for including the station among the beneficiaries.

“We appreciate Hajjat Namyalo and the Office of the National Chairman for this support. It will help Muslim officers as they observe the remaining days of Ramadan while continuing to serve the community,” ASP Awio said.

The Ramadan outreach forms part of broader community support initiatives spearheaded by the Office of the National Chairman aimed at assisting vulnerable groups and promoting compassion and unity during the holy month of Ramadan.

In recent weeks, the programme has distributed food items to Muslim communities, institutions and security personnel across different parts of the country.
